A CLOSER LOOK
Bafumbira design beside Mgahinga
Eight hand-built bandas draw on Bafumbira design, with fireplaces and private porches. Personal butler service and the Gushimisha Spa and Sauna form part of the lodge experience. A private footpath connects the property with Mgahinga trekking access. That proximity is useful when choosing a base, although it says nothing about how far the gorillas will be from the briefing point on a particular day.

A CLOSER LOOK
Kisozi and the Batwa heritage
A Kisozi Caldera hike offers another way into the surrounding landscape. Visits to the Gahinga Batwa Village and cultural heritage activities can also be arranged through the lodge. Choose these hosted encounters for an interest in the community’s heritage and present-day life. Arrange them with the lodge so that the hosts, setting and conversation have time of their own.
THE RWANDA DMC PERSPECTIVE
Settle into the Ugandan Virungas
We would arrive across the border the previous day and use the lodge as a settled Uganda base. Its park-access footpath simplifies the local start, while the bandas and spa make returning after a trek feel like coming back to a small retreat. An additional night can give golden monkeys or a Kisozi Caldera hike a proper place in the journey. A Batwa Village encounter should be chosen for an interest in the hosts and their heritage, with the visit arranged respectfully through the lodge. This creates a fuller Mgahinga chapter than a border crossing followed immediately by a single activity. The return to Rwanda can then occupy its own day, with Kigali reached before the international departure.
